Calling all budding young inventors and creatively-inclined adults. Get along to Motat's January holiday experi- ence Invent and Play for a tremendously techno- logical time. As part of the exciting Holiday Experience the transport museum is inviting visitors to create marvellous mechanisms where creative construc- tion toys and an impress- ive working display will have kids captivated for hours on end. They will also get the chance to Make 'n' Take their own Motat memen- toes, draft a blueprint of their own invention and check real blueprints from other projects. Motat's Invent and Play will be comple- mented by the newest travelling exhibition Imagination Factory. All the way from Aust- ralia's National Science and Technology Centre comes Questacon, the fascinating Imagination Factory exhibition that explores basic mechan- isms and uncovers how they can be used to cre- ate ingenious inventions. The January Holiday Experience will run from January 3 to February 3 at Motat. Milk scheme expands Primary school children will soon get free milk. Dairy giant Fonterra is set to roll out a nation- wide programme that will see every primary school child get a carton of milk every day. After a successful pilot programme in Northland the company decided to expand it to all New Zea- land primary schools. The programme will operate on an opt-in basis for interested pri- mary schools. Schools which choose to partici- pate will receive a daily serving of 180ml of low- fat milk for each child. Fonterra will also pro- vide fridges to keep it cool and an associated recycling programme. The initiative will work alongside the Gov- ernment's fruit in schools scheme which provides fruit to decile one and two primary and intermediate schools.
