Play about a Guy and girls Playing the part: Actor Julian Harrison, left, gets advice from Some Girls director Anton Bentley. Photo: FIONA GOODALL By STEPHANIE FAWCETT Go to www.eastern courier.co.nz to see a video clip of the show. When it comes to acting Julian Harrison loves a challenge. And as the main character in the play Some Girls he's found one. The writing career of his character Guy is on the up and up and he's on the verge of get- ting married when he decides to visit his ex-girlfriends. Some Girls director Anton Bentley says he loves how the play is open to interpretation and has a broad appeal. Everyone you speak to will have at least one person in their past who they'd like to meet up with again, either to put them in their place or to make amends and I think that's why the play is so appealing,'' he says. But I think my favourite thing about it is how it's open to a lot of interpretation in terms of what's gone on in the past before the play begins which gives us different ways to approach scenes.'' Mr Harrison says the play has been the most challenging he's been involved with. Guy's quite a complex character really. He doesn't know what he wants and he's on a journey of discovery throughout the play,'' he says. It's definitely the most chal- lenging work I've ever approached and I think it's because the way it's written doesn't spell everything out clearly so you have to work hard to interpret things and make choices on how to play scenes but still keep the twists hidden.'' Some Girls is at 8pm July 9-30 at the Howick Little Theatre. Matinees are on July 10 and 17 at 6pm. Contact the Howick Little Theatre on 534-1406 or email the at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Visit www.iticket.co.nz to book tickets.
