Thats why even though over half of us suffer with some sort of digestive problem1, we suffer in silence. The digestive system can create many dif- ferent problems; from constipation to indiges- tion, bloating to heart- burn. Some digestion problems are more dif- fcult to diagnose. For example Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a condition affecting the bowel. Symptoms may include bloating, pain or discomfort in your ab- domen and constipation or diarrhoea (or alter- nating between the two). It is very common and affects 20 percent of New Zealanders2. We all lead busy lives, so picking up a product from the supermarket without the right advice seems like an easy choice says Anita from Botany Care Chemist. But med- icine wont work if you have diagnosed yourself incorrectly. Or there may be a better option avail- able thats more effec- tive. There are also many lifestyle factors that can help you prevent or manage your diges- tion problem more easily. For example, raising the head of your bed can help if you have heartburn at night and a new study3 shows that exercise may help with IBS symptoms. You should also know that some conditions may seem like a harmless com- mon digestion problem, but may be something more serious. Thats why its impor- tant to talk to your Care Chemist pharmacist and ask for advice today. 1-2 For references see www. carechemist.co.nz/digestionreferences Anita, pharmacist Botany Care Chemist Losec Extra is used to treat the symptoms of heartburn and refux and is available without a prescription. What concerns me other than the material being handed out is the fact that only to members of the community have brought this too my attention. As a house owner or tenant you can receive a lot of ''advertising'' material through the post. Sometimes this material is questionable or something that you might believe is wrong. I ask you to attach the article of concern to a piece of paper with the following information attached: Time/date when it was received Where it was received (your address is not necessary but the street name will help us locate the area of concern) Did you see who delivered it and a possible description It is important to us the police that if you believe you are receiving questionable material that you let us know. The sooner you let us know we can start investigating and reviewing the information. We can then take the appropriate action and address any people or organisations. Remember this is your community and without your help any problems that start may take more time for us to resolve.
