She is pictured with Pat Goodchild of the bureau. Heang Thou is no stranger to signing documents. The Cambodian-born Jus- tice of the Peace is one of five new JPs offering their services at the Citizens Advice Bureau in Botany Town Centre. Mrs Thou has been a JP for the past 11 years. She has been a school teacher and social worker but has always done volunteer work in her free time. Everyone kept saying I should become a JP because of everything I did in the community, she says. So when I moved up to Auckland I decided to put my name forward. Mrs Thou settled in Christ- church after fleeing Cambodia 33 years ago. Pat Goodchild of the Citizens Advice Bureau says she saw a huge demand for the JP service at their sister site in Pakuranga. We would have to turn people down because the queues were so long, she says. The JP service in Botany will run every Tuesday from 1pm to 2pm. Alternatively, the JP service at the Citizens Advice Bureau in Pakuranga runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1pm to 2pm and from 9.30am to 11am on Saturdays.
