Photo: NICOLA WILLIAMS By NICOLA WILLIAMS A dance with an eclectic mix of ethnic influences will be a sight for sore eyes. Tribal Spirit belly dance troupe will put on a selection of per- formances in Highland Park. Teacher Christine Haviland says it s a chance to be entertained and to learn more about the unique form of dance. Tribal belly dancing differs from other forms of belly dancing by the type of costume the women wear and the dance style that takes Indian, Spanish and Mediterranean influ- ences. The movements are more earthy. She says the group dance is for women of all shapes, sizes and ages. Mrs Haviland teaches women from their 20s to their 70s. She says about 20 beautifully attired wo- men are excited about the chance to showcase their talent. To show the com- munity what they do is empowering to women, she says. The performance will be held on February 26 at 7pm at The Masonic Lodge on Highland Park Drive. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for over-65s and $10 for under-12s.
