14 EASTERN COURIER, FEBRUARY 23, 2011 NEWS Bridge Protection Work East Tamaki to Highbrook NZTA_ETH 2301 The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists there could be significant delays on SH1, northbound and southbound, between East Tamaki interchange and Highbrook interchange, continuing through February. These closures will be in place so bridge protection work can be carried out on Bairds Road and East Tamaki bridges. The work will be carried out at night between the hours of 9pm and 5am, due to reduced traffic volumes and to minimise disruption to road users. We expect the work will take around 7 weeks to complete, and the following closures will be in place during this time: February - full closure northbound and southbound lanes -- follow signposted detours When possible - one or more lanes closed northbound and southbound -- motorway still open Please note that detours could add up to 5 minutes to standard journey times. For updates and information about these works, or any other motorway issues please call Auckland Motorways on 09 5200 200. Happy chappy: Avid gardener Peter Fordham can't believe how big this hydrangea flower is. ''I've worked in the gardening business all my life and I've never seen a hydrangea that big,'' he says. ''It's huge!'' He didn't even plant the thing --- it just popped up. Mr Fordham's ornate garden is a regular feature in the annual Manukau in Bloom awards.
