My name is Deanne Teao and I'm new to the Howick police station. I'm relieving for sergeant Keith Olsen who is on secondment to other duties in the Manukau area. I have a number of years of experience in the youth and communities area of policing and it's certainly an area that interests me and something that I'm pretty passionate about. What do I love about youth and community policing? The ability to interact with so many different people in many different ways. I'm not required to race from job to job anymore, it's more about being able to sit and talk with people and find different ways to help our community ''Be safe and feel safe'' which is a focus for police this year. Being a part of a community is something we all have in common and if we're able to get along for the most part, we can enjoy our lives. Sometimes some of us might feel that we have to tolerate others who are different to us but remember that each of us is different and we should all be helping each other to work towards a safe environment for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren to live in. It's encouraging to know that those who do commit crimes are a small percentage of our community. Most people are good just like you and I and it's nice to be reminded of that every so often. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know this area a little better.
