Those who accept could pull in some serious prizes. Auckland Transport is again launching the summer Bike to Work Challenge. For 12 weeks until April 10 cyclists who give itagoforaminimumof 10 trips can rake in rewards from Avanti, Hoyts and Bike Wise. Community transport manager Matthew Red- nall says the Auckland Bike to Work Challenge is a great way to encour- age commuters to mount their bikes and enjoy the benefits of a low impact and healthy form of exer- cise and transport. There are numerous benefits for the wider community, he says. Each week people who sign up to the challenge will receive emails with helpful tips and go in the prize draw. New cyclists who log 10 journeys on the website during the 12-week challenge will enter the draw to win an Avanti Discovery 8C bicycle with bike lock, CatEye light set and an Avanti Razor II helmet. Registrations are open at www.bikewise.co.nz/ events/auckland-bike-2- work-challenge. Every fifth person to sign up could receive a prize pack of cycling goodies to get them started. Last year 330 people took part. SPCA hits social network The Auckland SPCA animals have joined social networking web- sites facebook and twit- ter.Animals up for adop- tion are keen to make friends and share their interests. The campaign has kicked off successfully with Prancer, a three- legged staffi cross being adopted within two days. In that time he made more than 40 facebook friends. SPCA Auckland mar- keting manager Martin Mackenzie says the cam- paign is a quirky way to help change the lives of animals in a desperate situation.
