10 EASTERN COURIER, JANUARY 12, 2011 For more information visit our website: www.animalmanagement.co.nz Adoption Responsible dog owners are needed to adopt good tempered re-homeable dogs that need a new life and lots of love and care. Contact: Adoption Officers, DSS Animal Management, Phone: 279 5959 Microchipping Registration and microchipping are two different processes. Dog owners must register their dog every year but only need to microchip their dog once. All dogs registered for the first time, except working farm dogs, need to be microchipped. Dogs that have been classified as dangerous or menacing and dogs that are unregistered and get impounded or are registered and get impounded twice must be microchipped. Microchipping your dog will help locate you if your dog is picked up by an Animal Control Officer and impounded. Wandering/stray dogs It is against the law for dogs to be outside the confines of their property without a responsible person and on a leash. A $300 fine will be issued by Animal Control Officers if a dog is found wandering. In addition to this the dog will be impounded and relevant fees will also be charged. DON'T LET YOUR DOG WANDER THE STREETS. Your dog needs to be safe and secure on your property. Most reported dog attacks on people and other animals are caused by wandering dogs. Dog Poo All dog owners are required to pick up their dog faeces anywhere outside their property. Dogs on Beaches -- Daylight Saving A reminder that during the daylight saving months dogs are only permitted on beaches before 9am and after 7pm. Make sure you pick up your dog's droppings!! Keep our environment clean! Lost Dogs If you have lost your dog contact the Animal Shelter - phone 279 5959 - as your dog may have been picked up by an Animal Control Officer.
