Photo: FIONA GOODALL By KRISTINA RAPLEY Art exhibitions aren t the usual stomping ground for youngsters. But that s about to change this weekend at Uxbridge Creative Centre s kids-only exhi- bition. Muka Prints will dis- play its unique collection of lithographs designed especially for young people aged 5 to 18 on Friday and Saturday. For 23 years Muka Prints has invited prom- inent local and inter- national artists, includ- ing greats such as John Reynolds, Gretchen Al- brecht and Dick Frizzell, to create limited edition prints to engage kids and stimulate their imag- inations. The artists are all top secret and the purchaser won t know who made their artwork until after they have bought it. Adults are not allowed in the gallery to make sure the artwork is entirely the young person s choice. The prints are $65 each or $130 framed but Uxbridge centre man- ager Tony Morgan says some of them are worth hundreds of dollars. I think young people are very perceptive about art and can recognise something of value. To celebrate the arrival of Muka Prints the centre will hold a family day on Saturday. From 9.30am to 1pm there will be badge mak- ing for $2 and free face painting. Prints can be collected from the Uxbridge Cre- ative Centre at 35 Ux- bridge Rd, Howick dur- ing office hours on December 22 or when it reopens on January 5. Visit www.uxbridge.org. nz or call 535-6467 for information.
