Students from Howick Intermediate are pound- ing the pavements for SPCA Angels for Animals annual street appeal this weekend and they want your support. Collectors will be out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in all the main centres including Botany Downs, Howick, Paku- ranga, Highland Park, East Tamaki, Meadow- lands, Beachlands, Ma- raetai, Clevedon, and Whitford. Animal Nightmares is a group of six students who are researching ani- mal abuse for their school project. One of their goals is to make a difference, so they are dedicated to raising awareness of the appeal week. So many animals get abused every year and we think something should be done about it,'' says student Ashleigh Moat. We want to help pre- vent it.'' They have made posters advertising the appeal week and distrib- uted them around local vets and supermarkets, as well as holding their own special collection day at school on Friday. Auckland SPCA fund- raising manager Jeanine Gribbin says they are grateful for the enthusi- asm of the students. Summer is the SPCA's busiest season. It's for this reason there's up to 50 percent off the cost of all cats and dogs, puppies and kittens from now until after Christ- mas. The SPCA Auckland Animal Village doesn't get government funding and relies on donations from the public. Visit www.spca.org.nz or phone 256-7300 for more information.
